For Freshers in Corporate World

By

As I got up in the morning, I was very calm and relaxed. I got ready very slowly and lousily. But in the back of my mind I knew I was forgetting something. I made a quick checklist in my rather busy brain –
Everything was in place but I couldn’t hunt for that one thing that had occupied my mind from the morning.
I got into the bus. As soon as I sat inside the bus, my mind banged loudly as a message popped on my phone. It was from my colleague reminding me about a pre-scheduled meeting – LEADERSHIP CONNECT. And I was getting late. I reached the meeting area 10 mins late. I was really glad that I made it but I was LATE. There is no room for any mistakes in the corporate world. As it was our first endeavor with our leaders, they were warm.
We had a very productive interaction with the dignitaries. The lesson that I learnt today will always remain with me for a lifetime.
If you want to be successful, you need to understand a few things. Listen to your Leaders. They have a great experience on the journey from roads to riches.
If you are new to corporate world and you want to make a mark in to this unique world, you need to understand the following things:
1. Do well in any sloppy job given to you. Even if it means printing a paper. I am not kidding.
2. Don’t get too excited about managing the team, until you become a part of the team. Only after working with a team, you will understand how to manage them and then to lead them.
3. Ask what your small bug does in the bigger scenario. It shouldn’t matter how small a bug you are told to fix, don’t forget to ask your lead to give a bigger scenario of the results.
4. You have to be on time. If ever you are getting a few minutes late, inform your team mates beforehand.
5. You should always follow business etiquettes
One more thing I wanted to add is that keeping a diary is the most essential thing. I cannot stress more on how vital role it plays in keeping you organized. Of course you have outlook and other apps that do this job. If you are a tech savvy, use apps to keep you updated of any upcoming meetings. But seriously guys, it is important that you do this step. It will always keep you one step ahead and prepared in this league.
These are the things that I have learnt today. I just wanted to share this to all those who are new in this corporate world just like me.
Just remember, it is not a sprint race. You have to be smart and steady. Have patience and everything will fall into right place in the right time.
